Karen Gillan plays a drifting twenty-eight-year-old Brooklynite whose life is already stalled before a drunken fall lands her in the hospital with a broken hip. Stuck immobile and broke, she takes an unglamorous job caring for an elderly Polish woman, played by Malgorzata Zajaczkowska, who speaks almost no English and has zero patience for her new caretaker. Neither of them wants this arrangement. The older woman is used to running her own life and resents being managed; the younger one is barely managing her own life, let alone someone else's. Their days together start as a string of small standoffs over food, routine, and control, but the friction slowly turns into something closer to recognition, two stubborn people forced to look at where they actually are.
