When the world outside stops being safe after dark, a farmhouse becomes the last line of defense for one family trying to hold itself together.

What is Arcadian about?

Years after some unnamed catastrophe emptied out most of civilization, Paul raises his twin sons Thomas and Joseph in an isolated farmhouse, a routine built entirely around surviving until sunrise. Something changes shape and hunts by night, and the family's daily chores, patched fences, and locked shutters are the only barrier between them and whatever is out there. As the boys grow older, they start pulling in different directions: Thomas wants to strike out and prove himself useful beyond the farm's boundaries, while Joseph is drawn toward a neighboring family and the fragile idea of a life that includes someone outside their own four walls. When Paul is hurt and can no longer shield his sons the way he used to, the brothers are forced to take on responsibilities neither of them is fully ready for, defending their home while working out what they actually owe each other. The film stays close to the family's perspective throughout, using the creatures circling the property more as pressure on their relationships than as the point of the story itself.

Cast & crew

Nicolas Cage plays Paul with a wary, protective intensity that grounds the film's quieter domestic scenes. Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins play the twin sons, carrying much of the story's emotional weight as their approaches to fear and survival start to diverge.

Context & significance

Released in 2024 and shot on location in Ireland, the film leans into practical creature design and rural isolation rather than large-scale spectacle, keeping its horror rooted in a small, tightly drawn family unit.
