Director: Ross Venokur

Zhi, an underestimated rookie with plenty of heart, gets a shot at racing against the reigning champion of a legendary rally circuit in this globe-trotting animated adventure.

What is Rally Road Racers about?

Determined to prove he belongs among the sport's elite, Zhi teams up with a washed-up former racer who now works as a mechanic and reluctantly agrees to train him. Together they prepare for a grueling circuit that winds through deserts, mountains and city streets, facing off against a roster of flashy, overconfident rivals who see Zhi as an easy target. Sabotage, breakdowns and a rival's mind games threaten to end the run before it starts, pushing Zhi and his makeshift crew to lean on trust and teamwork rather than raw speed alone to reach the finish line.

Cast & crew

Jimmy O. Yang voices Zhi, with Lisa Lu and Chloe Bennet in key supporting roles alongside genre veterans J.K. Simmons, Catherine Tate, Sharon Horgan and John Cleese, whose comic timing gives the rival racers and pit-crew characters plenty of bite.

Context & significance

A co-production spanning the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States, Rally Road Racers was directed by Ross Venokur and released in 2023 as a globally-minded entry in the crowded field of talking-animal racing comedies, distinguishing itself with rally-specific settings rather than a generic speedway. Its multi-country backing also shows up in the mix of accents and comic voices among the racers, giving the circuit a wider, more international flavor than most animated sports stories aimed at families.
