On the morning of Mai's high school graduation, Sakuta is caught off guard by the sudden appearance of an elementary-school-aged girl who looks unmistakably like his girlfriend. Before he can make sense of it, a call comes from Sakuta and his sister Kaede's estranged father, saying their mother is asking to see her daughter after being hospitalized under the weight of Kaede's condition. The two threads pull Sakuta between two people he loves, forcing him to confront how much of his family's pain he has been quietly managing on his own while trying not to let Mai's milestone slip away unnoticed.
