Director: Jeremy Zag
Beneath the ordinary life of a shy Parisian teenager hides a superhero destined to save her city, and Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie finally brings her origin to the big screen.
What is Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie about?
Marinette is an average teenager navigating the usual mess of school, friendships, and a crush she's too nervous to admit to her classmate Adrien — until an ancient jewel hands her extraordinary powers of creation and turns her into Ladybug. Paris needs her more than she realizes: a new threat is rising, one determined to unleash chaos across the city, and Ladybug alone won't be enough to stop it. She finds an unlikely partner in Cat Noir, a masked hero whose powers work in opposition to her own, and the two must learn to fight as a team even as their civilian identities stay hidden from each other. Balancing ordinary teenage stakes against superhero-sized ones, Marinette has to figure out who she can trust, how far her new abilities really go, and what it means to protect a city that has no idea who's really behind the mask.
Cast & crew
The French voice cast includes Annouck Hautbois and Benjamin Bollen in the lead roles, alongside Fanny Bloc, Alexandre N'Guyen, Antoine Tomé, Marie Chevalot, Marie Nonnenmacher, and Martial Le Minoux rounding out the supporting characters. Jeremy Zag, the creator of the original Miraculous animated series, directs the feature himself, bringing the same voice ensemble's chemistry from the show over to this bigger-scale story.
Context & significance
This 2023 film is a China–France co-production and serves as a cinematic origin story for the Miraculous franchise, reintroducing Marinette and Adrien's dual identities for audiences who may know the characters only from the long-running television series. Zag folds in more musical numbers and a larger-scale villain threat than the show's typical episode format allows, aiming the film at both existing fans and newcomers looking for a self-contained entry point into the Ladybug and Cat Noir mythology.
