Director: Alice Lowe
Alice Lowe writes, directs, and stars in this time-hopping romantic comedy about a woman who can't stop chasing the wrong man, no matter which century she lands in.
What is Timestalker about?
Agnes keeps dying and coming back across different eras, and every single time she is reborn, the same pull toward one particular man drags her toward heartbreak again. Timestalker jumps between a windswept 17th-century moor, the glam-rock haze of the 1970s, and other stops along the way, following Agnes as she tries on new identities, new friends, and new disasters while the universe seems determined to repeat its favorite joke on her. Around her orbit a cast of oddballs, would-be lovers, and one loyal companion who keeps reappearing in different guises, offering a thread of continuity across the chaos. The film treats reincarnation less as a mystical device and more as a setup for a cosmic comedy of errors, using each new period and its costumes, slang, and social rules to reframe the same doomed romantic impulse. By the time the loop nears its end, Agnes has accumulated just enough scars and self-awareness to wonder whether she can finally break the pattern.
Cast & crew
Alice Lowe carries the film in the lead role of Agnes while also directing, giving the character's repeated misfortune a consistent comic backbone across wildly different settings. Jacob Anderson and Aneurin Barnard appear across the timeline as figures who keep crossing Agnes's path, and Nick Frost adds his familiar dry humor to the ensemble. Tanya Reynolds, Mike Wozniak, Kate Dickie, and Dan Renton Skinner round out a supporting cast built for quick tonal shifts between eras.
Context & significance
Timestalker premiered in 2024 as Lowe's follow-up feature, continuing the mix of dark comedy and genre play that marked her earlier directing work. Structured as a series of vignettes rather than one continuous plot, the film moves through distinct historical backdrops that let its production and costume design do a lot of comedic heavy lifting.
