Three siblings guard a stretch of national forest by day and shape-shift into animal spirits by night in "Spirit Rangers," a family animated series built around Native American storytelling traditions.
What is Spirit Rangers about?
Kodiak, Summer, and Eddy Skycedar look like an ordinary family living inside Bearskin National Park, until trouble arrives and the three transform into their spirit animal forms to set things right. Each episode sends the trio into a park-wide adventure rooted in nature, community, and the everyday responsibilities of looking after a shared home, whether that means calming a spooked herd, solving a dispute between forest creatures, or helping a visiting family find their way. Series creator Karissa Valencia, who is Chumash, built the show around genuine Indigenous perspectives rather than borrowed folklore, and that grounding shows up in the details: the family's relationship to land, elders, and seasonal change carries real cultural weight even inside brightly colored, kid-friendly adventures.
Cast & crew
Tantoo Cardinal, a veteran Indigenous actress known for decades of film and television work, lends her voice to the series, adding a recognizable and respected presence to a cast built largely around Indigenous talent both behind and in front of the microphone.
Context & significance
"Spirit Rangers" arrived as one of the first major animated series developed with Native American creative leadership at every level, from writing to voice casting, rather than treating Indigenous culture as background scenery. The show pairs that specificity with a broadly appealing adventure format, so young viewers get both an entertaining series and an honest window into a specific community's stories and values. Its setting inside a fictional national park also gives the writers room to fold in real conservation themes, from wildlife protection to seasonal land stewardship, alongside the fantasy elements of the siblings' spirit transformations.
Where & how to watch
"Spirit Rangers" is available on K-Time with Persian subtitles and a fully Farsi interface, making it easy for Persian-speaking families to watch together. Streaming only requires a free K-Time account and login.
