After breaking out of an Australian prison, a man travels to India carrying a false passport and a need to disappear. He settles in a Bombay slum, where he begins treating the sick with whatever medical knowledge he has picked up along the way, slowly becoming a trusted, if unofficial, doctor to a community with nowhere else to turn. That new identity draws him toward the city's criminal underworld, where old instincts resurface even as he tries to build something honest. The series follows his uneasy balancing act between the man he is pretending to be and the man his past will not let him forget, set against a backdrop of poverty, ambition, and survival.
