What is The Boy From Below about?
Kyuta is a boy adrift in the crowds of Shibuya when a chance turn leads him through a gate into Jutengai, a realm built for beasts rather than people. There he crosses paths with Kumatetsu, a solitary and short-tempered fighter who has never had a student or a family of his own. Circumstance pushes the two together, and neither much wants the arrangement at first: a stubborn boy from Tokyo and a beast who has never had to explain himself to anyone. What starts as a mismatch becomes a bond neither one chose but both come to need, carrying them through trials that test what each is willing to become for the other, and blurring the line between the human city and the world underneath it.

Koji Yakusho and Aoi Miyazaki lead a voice cast that also includes Shota Sometani, Suzu Hirose, Lily Franky, Yo Oizumi, Kazuhiro Yamaji, and Mamoru Miyano, several of whom have worked with director Mamoru Hosoda on his other animated features.
