Alana Toro is one step from joining the ATIC Guard, and the final requirement is a simulation built to break her. Inside it she has to stop a terrorist attack and prove her loyalty to the organisation putting her through it, and every failure simply rewinds the clock for another attempt. The people who die in the exercise vanish the moment the simulation resets, but Alana carries each of those deaths forward in her own memory, and the accumulated weight starts to change how she sees the test itself. The closer she gets to finishing it, the more she begins to doubt the institution she has been fighting so hard to enter, turning a straightforward loyalty exercise into something far more unsettling.
