The story opens far from Iran, where a small self-styled opposition outfit headed by a man introduced as Dr. Madani assembles an operation it is certain will be decisive. The disguise needs performers, so two well-known Iranian actors are hired for what they take to be a routine job, appearing as fictionalised versions of themselves. Neither is told what the shoot is really for.
