Seabrook's zombies, cheerleaders and monster-loving humans close out their high-school run with an alien twist in Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 3, Paul Hoen's 2022 finale to the Disney franchise.
What is Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 3 about?
Zed and Addison are heading into their senior year at Seabrook High, a school that has spent two films turning from a segregated town into an uneasy but functioning mix of humans, zombies and werewolves. Zed has his sights on an athletic scholarship that would make him the first zombie to reach college on it, and Addison is deep in preparation for the school's first international cheer-off. That momentum breaks when extraterrestrial visitors show up in Seabrook, and the arrival reads as something closer to a challenge than a welcome. What had been a story about a town learning to live with its zombies and werewolves now has to make room for guests from somewhere much further away, and the push toward graduation gets folded into a bigger question about who else gets to belong in Seabrook.
About the cast
Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim return as Addison and Zed, with Chandler Kinney, Matt Cornett, Trevor Tordjman, Kylee Russell and Ariel Martin back in the ensemble alongside RuPaul, who joins the cast for this installment.
Context & significance
Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 3 caps a Disney Channel franchise that spent its first two films building Seabrook's monster-and-human social order from the ground up, and the alien arc gives the finale room to close out that arc while opening a new one. Paul Hoen, who directed the earlier films, returns to steer the tone the series is built on: music and dance sequences carrying plot beats that a comedy built for a younger audience would otherwise have to spell out directly.
