Director: Juan Jesús García Galocha
Three ancient mummies wake up in modern London with one goal and zero street smarts, powering the family animated comedy Mummies, a 2023 Spanish production directed by Juan Jesús García Galocha.
What is Mummies about?
A string of unlikely mishaps yanks three mummies out of their long rest and drops them straight into present-day London, a city they understand not at all. Their mission is simple in theory: track down an old ring that once belonged to the Royal Family, now in the hands of an ambitious archaeologist named Lord Carnaby who has no intention of giving it up. What follows is a chase through unfamiliar streets and stranger customs, full of culture-clash gags as three visitors from the distant past try to blend in, outsmart a determined rival, and reclaim something that matters more to their own history than anyone around them realizes.
Cast & crew
The Spanish voice cast is led by Óscar Barberán alongside Ana Esther Alborg, Luis Pérez Reina, María Luisa Solá, Jaume Solà, José Luis Mediavilla, José Javier Serrano Rodríguez, and Aleix Estadella, giving each mummy a distinct comic rhythm as they bounce off one another and the modern world around them.
Context & significance
Produced in Spain and released in 2023, the film leans into broad, family-friendly comedy rather than horror, using its ancient-Egyptian characters mainly as a fish-out-of-water device for jokes about contemporary life. At 88 minutes it moves at a light pace suited to younger viewers, while the London treasure-hunt plot gives the adventure enough shape to hold attention beyond the sight gags.
Where & how to watch
Mummies is available on K-Time with Persian dubbing, and its page can be read freely before signing in. Streaming the film requires a free K-Time account, and the platform's interface is designed in Farsi for Persian-speaking families watching from outside Iran.
