Franklin has just moved to town, and none of his usual ways of making friends seem to work on Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and the rest of the gang. Then the annual Soap Box Derby rolls around, and Franklin sees an opening: build a winning racer and finally earn a place among his new neighbors. The only other kid without a teammate happens to be Charlie Brown, so the two reluctantly pair up. What starts as a mismatched partnership of convenience turns into the film's real story, as both boys figure out that belonging usually has less to do with winning than with who shows up for you.
