Ronja grows up inside Mattis's robber clan, sheltered by a father who loves her fiercely but rules his fortress like a king. When she wanders into the forest surrounding their home, she discovers harpies, gray dwarves, and a menagerie of creatures who treat the woods as their own. Her life changes when she meets Birk, the son of a rival robber chief, and forms a friendship that crosses clan lines despite her father's fury. Together the two children navigate loyalty to family, the pull of independence, and a forest that feels as much a character as anyone in it.
