What is Uzumaki about?
Kirie Goshima lives a quiet life in Kurouzu-cho until her boyfriend's father becomes fixated on spirals in ways that spiral, quite literally, out of control. What starts as one man's obsession spreads through the town like an infection, warping the behavior of neighbors, altering the shape of everyday objects, and eventually distorting the physical world itself. Kirie and her boyfriend Shuichi try to hold onto their own sanity while watching the town around them curl inward on itself, each new incident stranger and more disturbing than the last. Told through a stark black-and-white animation style, the series treats an unexplained curse less like a single monster to defeat and more like a slow-moving natural disaster no one can outrun.

Uki Satake voices Kirie with a grounded calm that makes the town's escalating strangeness land harder by contrast. Shin-ichiro Miki, Mariya Ise, and a deep supporting cast including Toshio Furukawa give the sprawling ensemble of Kurouzu-cho residents distinct, memorable voices as more and more of them are pulled into the town's curse, and the sheer size of that cast helps sell the idea of an entire community unraveling together.
