Director: Jennifer Phang
Auradon's next generation gets a villain origin story in Descendants: The Rise of Red, a 2024 fantasy adventure directed by Jennifer Phang.
What is Descendants The Rise Of Red about?
When the Queen of Hearts stages an uprising against the kingdom, her headstrong daughter Red finds herself on the wrong side of a rebellion she never asked to lead. Desperate to change course, Red teams up with Chloe, Cinderella's exacting and rule-bound daughter, and the two set off on a journey through time. Their goal: reach the moment before everything went wrong and steer the Queen of Hearts away from the choices that would eventually turn her into one of Wonderland's most feared figures. Along the way, Red and Chloe have to reconcile very different upbringings, clashing instincts, and a shared fear that they might already be too late to undo the damage.
Cast & crew
Kylie Cantrall leads as Red opposite Malia Baker's Chloe, with Rita Ora returning as the Queen of Hearts and Brandy reprising her role as Cinderella. The ensemble also features Ruby Rose Turner, Morgan Dudley, China Anne McClain, and Dara Reneé rounding out the Auradon cast.
Context & significance
This installment shifts the Descendants franchise toward a prequel structure, tracing how the Queen of Hearts became the antagonist fans already know from earlier chapters of the series. The time-travel device lets the film explore cause and consequence directly, giving younger characters agency in reshaping a story that originally happened to their parents.
