Turquoise lagoons and overwater bungalows set the stage for this Canadian-made romantic comedy, in which a magazine assignment turns into something the traveler never expected.
What is Love In The Maldives about?
A writer flies to a remote island resort to chase a decades-old legend about a shipwreck rumored to be hiding buried treasure somewhere along the reef. Her guide through the property is the resort's guest experience expert, who knows every inlet and rumor on the island but keeps his own reasons for staying close to the story. As her research into the wreck deepens, so does her curiosity about the man showing her around, and the assignment she arrived to finish starts competing with feelings she did not plan for. Between dive excursions, sunset dinners, and half-true island folklore, she has to decide whether the story she came for is the one worth telling.
Cast & crew
Jocelyn Hudon leads as the travel writer, opposite Jake Manley as the resort's guest experience expert. Lucy Newman-Williams, Juliana Wimbles, and Patricia McKenzie round out the supporting cast in roles that keep the resort's day-to-day chaos, and its gossip, moving.
Context & significance
Directed by Colin Theys, the film is a Canadian production shot to showcase Maldives-style island scenery within a breezy, formula-friendly romance frame. It arrived in 2023 as part of a wave of destination rom-coms built around a single scenic hook: a resort, an island, a treasure hunt used mainly as a reason to keep the leads talking.
