Behind the counter of a busy noodle shop, four employees are quietly hunting the demons that walk among ordinary people.
What is The Uncanny Counter about?
The Uncanny Counter follows a group known as Counters, humans granted supernatural strength and speed to track down evil spirits that have slipped into the mortal world, prolonging their own existence by feeding on human souls. By day, the team runs a modest noodle restaurant that doubles as their cover and headquarters; by night, they chase down targets across the city, each Counter drawing on a different ability tied to their own history. At the center is a young man whose weakened legs are transformed the moment he takes on this new role, forcing him to balance an ordinary high-school life with a secret job that puts him face to face with forces far older than himself. Adapted from a popular webtoon, the series builds out a full mythology of hunters, spirits, and the rules that bind them.
Cast & crew
Cho Byeong-kyu leads the cast as the newest Counter, alongside Yu Jun-sang and Yeom Hye-ran as senior members of the team who train him. Kim Se-jeong, Ahn Suk-hwan, Yoo In-soo, Jin Sun-kyu, and Kang Ki-young fill out a large ensemble spanning both the Counters' circle and the spirits they pursue.
Context & significance
Director You Sun-dong adapts the story from the webtoon of the same name, keeping its comic-book pacing of short, escalating confrontations while giving the noodle-shop setting a warm, lived-in feel between action sequences. The series became one of South Korea's higher-rated fantasy dramas of its run, with its 2023 chapter continuing the story for an audience that had already grown attached to the core cast.
Where & how to watch
The Uncanny Counter is available to stream on K-Time with Persian subtitles. All that's required is a free account and login, through a platform designed with Farsi-speaking viewers across the diaspora in mind.
