Jaime Reyes returns home from college with a law degree and no job prospects, only to find his family's house facing foreclosure. Desperate for income, he takes a gig cleaning at a sprawling tech estate owned by a ruthless industrialist, where his sister slips him a mysterious relic to keep it out of corporate hands. That night the artifact, a living alien scarab, fuses itself to Jaime's spine and wraps him in an intelligent suit of armor he cannot remove or fully control.
