A reporter who shares his body with an alien organism, and a prisoner who is about to gain a similar and far more destructive power: Venom: Let There Be Carnage builds its story around that collision. The 2021 superhero feature was directed by Andy Serkis, runs 97 minutes, and combines action, adventure, science fiction and thriller elements.
What is Venom: Let There Be Carnage about?
Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist, is still adjusting to life with the alien symbiote that has taken up residence inside him. The bond gives him unusual strength and abilities, yet living with a restless, hungry partner makes ordinary routines difficult, and Brock is trying to find a way to use these new powers without losing control of his own life. His work as a reporter brings him into contact with Cletus Kasady, a convicted serial offender held in prison, who agrees to talk to him. After a planned execution goes wrong, Kasady escapes custody and returns to violence, now possessed of a new and even more dangerous presence called Carnage. Brock and the symbiote must confront an adversary whose powers resemble their own, at a moment when the two of them are still working out how to share a single body.

Context & significance
The catalogue credits the production to the United States of America and China. Andy Serkis is the credited director. The genre labels attached to the title are Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Superhero and Thriller, and the premise draws on each of them: an alien life form supplies the science-fiction element, the escape of a dangerous prisoner drives the thriller plot, and the confrontation between two symbiote-powered figures provides the action. The story picks up after the symbiote has already found its host in Brock, so the relationship between man and organism is presented as an established, if uneasy, partnership rather than a new encounter.
