Director: Martin Bourboulon
The Three Musketeers: Milady is a 2024 French-led period adventure directed by Martin Bourboulon. It forms the second half of a two-part screen retelling of Alexandre Dumas' novel and picks up directly where the first installment, D'Artagnan, left off.
What is The Three Musketeers: Milady about?
The story resumes soon after the earlier film ends. The young Gascon D'Artagnan is trying to trace Constance, who was seized in front of him, and his search draws him back toward Milady de Winter, a resourceful operative whose loyalties are difficult to read. At the same time, political and religious rivalries across the kingdom keep hardening, and the crown moves steadily toward open conflict. Once war is formally declared, the four companions are pulled out of court intrigue and sent to the front, where long-held secrets from the past gradually come to light.
Cast & crew
The film is built around a large French ensemble. François Civil returns as D'Artagnan, Eva Green plays Milady de Winter, and Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris and Pio Marmaï appear as Athos, Aramis and Porthos. Louis Garrel, Lyna Khoudri and Vicky Krieps are among the supporting players who round out the court and its rivals.
Context & significance
Milady was filmed back-to-back with its predecessor as one large European production, with companies from France, Belgium, Germany and Spain involved in the shoot. It runs roughly 121 minutes. The screenplay adapts the later chapters of Dumas' 1844 serialized novel, a source that has been brought to the screen many times over more than a century of cinema. The seventeenth-century setting includes the Catholic and Protestant tensions of the period, presented here strictly as historical backdrop to the adventure rather than as the focus of the plot. The film carries an IMDb rating of 6.4.
