What is Ripley about?
Tom, a low-level grifter scraping by on petty scams in New York, is hired by a wealthy shipping magnate to travel to Italy and persuade his wayward son, Dickie, to come home. What begins as a straightforward errand slowly curdles into obsession, as Tom finds himself drawn into Dickie's charmed, sun-soaked life on the Amalfi coast and unwilling to let it go. As suspicion mounts among the people around Dickie, Tom starts inventing new versions of himself to stay one step ahead, trading forged signatures and borrowed identities for a life he was never supposed to have. Shot in stark black and white, the series follows Tom's transformation from an anxious outsider into someone capable of anything, tracking the slow, cold logic of a man who decides that being someone else is easier than being caught.
Cast & crew
Andrew Scott carries the series as Tom, playing the character's calculation and unease in the same breath, while Dakota Fanning plays Marge, whose growing wariness of Tom threatens to expose him.
