What is Red Sparrow about?
Dominika Egorova has spent her life training as a ballerina, and a stage accident takes that future away in an instant, leaving her with a sick mother to support and few options left. A relative with ties to Russian intelligence offers a way out: enrollment at a covert institution known as Sparrow School, where recruits are trained to use psychological manipulation and physical seduction as tools of espionage. Once she completes the program, Dominika is assigned her first real mission, an operation aimed at a CIA officer suspected of running a mole inside the Russian state. As the two circle each other, neither entirely sure how much the other believes, the operation grows into a test of loyalty that puts both countries' intelligence networks at risk. The film moves between Budapest, Vienna and Moscow as Dominika learns how far she can bend the rules she was trained to follow.

Jennifer Lawrence leads the film as Dominika, opposite Joel Edgerton as the CIA officer she is sent to target. Charlotte Rampling, Jeremy Irons and Matthias Schoenaerts round out a cast built almost entirely around intelligence-agency figures on both sides.
