Every other beluga calf in the pod has turned white by now. Katak hasn't, and that gap between him and everyone else is where this 2023 Canadian animated adventure begins.
What is Katak: The Brave Beluga about?
Small, grey, and impatient to prove he has grown up, Katak sets his sights on the far north, driven partly by the pressure of not fitting in with his paler, older peers and partly by a promise he means to keep. His beloved grandmother has one last wish, and Katak decides that fulfilling it is the surest way to show the pod, and himself, that he belongs among the grown belugas. The journey he takes on is nothing like the safe, familiar waters he knows: it's a genuinely perilous stretch of ocean, full of obstacles that test a small whale who has never had to rely only on himself before. Along the way the film builds its adventure out of Katak's persistence rather than his size, following a character who keeps going precisely because turning back was never really an option once he'd made the promise.
