Director: Kelsey Mann
Riley's mind gets a construction crew it never asked for in Inside Out 2, as a new emotion muscles into headquarters and forces the old guard to figure out where they still fit.
What is Inside Out 2 about?
As Riley turns thirteen, the control room that Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust have run for years gets torn apart to make space for something nobody saw coming. Anxiety arrives first, fast-talking and hard to ignore, and she does not appear to be working alone. Suddenly the emotions that used to have a system have to relearn how to cooperate, just as Riley faces a weekend that will reshape her friendships and her sense of who she is. The 2024 Pixar sequel expands its inner-world premise into adolescence, treating a teenager's shifting moods as the real special effect.
Cast & crew
Amy Poehler returns as Joy, still the emotional core trying to hold the operation together, with Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, and Tony Hale back as Sadness, Anger, and Fear. Maya Hawke joins the cast as the new arrival Anxiety, and Kensington Tallman voices the now-teenage Riley, with Liza Lapira and Ayo Edebiri filling out the expanded roster of emotions.
Context & significance
Director Kelsey Mann takes over the series and pushes its central idea forward by several years, moving from a young child's mind to a teenager's, where the emotional cast list naturally grows more crowded and harder to manage. Coming a decade after the original, the 2024 sequel leans on that time gap to justify a bigger, noisier internal world.
