Xiao Yan still owes the Cloud Sect's chief disciple a three-year bargain, and paying it off means chasing down the Green Lotus Core Flame rumored to lie deep in Snake Clan territory. He and Medicine Elder cross into the desert only to land in the middle of a brewing war between humans and the snake people who guard the region. Queen Medusa's absence from public view, while she pushes toward a higher cultivation realm, opens a narrow window that Xiao Yan and his companions Qing Ling and Mu Li decide to use, slipping into the Snake Clan's underground stronghold. A twist inside that stronghold hands Xiao Yan the core he came for, right as the standoff between the two peoples boils over into open conflict above ground. What follows tests how far his newly amplified power can carry him against a scheme years in the making.
