Two travellers, one abandoned town, and something with teeth that should have died out millions of years ago. Claw (2021) is a lean creature feature that strands its characters where no one will hear them scream.
What is Claw about?
The setup could not be simpler. Two friends on the road end up stuck for the night in a ghost town, a cluster of empty buildings with no working phones and no obvious way out until morning. What begins as an inconvenience becomes a fight to survive once they realise they are not alone: a prehistoric predator is loose among the dusty storefronts, and it has already picked up their scent. Director Gerald Rascionato keeps the geography tight, so the pair are always within a few streets of the thing hunting them, using whatever shelter, tools and nerve they can scrape together. The mystery of how such a creature came to be there is folded into the chase rather than explained up front, which gives the sci-fi angle room to breathe alongside the horror.
