Mills is flying a routine cross-galaxy transport when his ship slams into a field of debris and goes down hard, leaving him the sole adult survivor. A young girl, Koa, has also made it out alive, though neither can speak the other's language at first. Stranded on a planet that looks nothing like the charts promised, the pair quickly realize the terrain itself is the least of their problems: something ancient and enormous still rules this world, and their crash has put them squarely in its path. With their rescue beacon days away from reaching help, Mills and Koa have to cross miles of hostile jungle on foot, scavenging gear from the wreckage and learning to trust a stranger who barely understands her. Every ridge and riverbed hides another threat, and the film leans into practical tension over spectacle, tightening the screws scene by scene rather than pausing to explain what year, or what planet, they've actually landed on.
Cast & crew
Adam Driver anchors the film as Mills, carrying long stretches with almost no dialogue partner, while newcomer Ariana Greenblatt holds her own as Koa despite the language barrier written into the script. Chloe Coleman and Nika King round out a small supporting cast in a story that otherwise rests almost entirely on its two leads.
