Scripted drama isn’t the only thing breaking out of Iranian living rooms. Eshghe Abadi — عشق آبادی — is the most-watched new title in this batch, and it’s a reality dating show: proof that Persian unscripted TV has found a diaspora audience hungry for something lighter.

What it’s about
Hosted by Parastoo Salehi, the format is simple and irresistible: a group of contestants live together for 24-hour stretches while romance, rivalry, and the inevitable emotional swings play out on camera. Love, jealousy, the highs and the lows — the universal grammar of reality TV, in Persian, with faces and humour that land specifically for an Iranian audience.
Why it’s a hit
Reality TV travels, and diaspora viewers have been watching foreign versions for years. Eshghe Abadi gives them a Persian one — shareable, bingeable, and exactly the kind of low-stakes fun that brings a family back to the same screen night after night. The play count says the rest.
